Analysis of China's apparel import and export market trends from January to September 2024: challenges and opportunities coexist

According to Chinese customs statistics, from January to September this year, the cumulative total export value of China's clothing (including clothing accessories) was 118.38 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%. Quarterly analysis showed that apparel exports edged up 1.2 percent to $33.75 billion in the first quarter, however, the value of exports in the second and third quarters still fell by 1 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively, against the backdrop of a low base in the same period last year, indicating that the downward trend is accelerating. Specific to the single month of September, the export value of clothing was 13.53 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 5.1%.
